Pegasus celebrates the Tour of California with activities all day!

Please join us Saturday, May 18th for a full day of cycling, food, music and fun. We will start our day with BMC and Argon 18 hosting a morning DEMO ride and a light post ride brunch. Representatives will be on hand to answer all your questions and get you set up on a demo bike.

Meet us at the shop at 8:00a.m. if you wish to try out a bike (bikes are limited so please call us and reserve a rig today!). We will roll-out at 8:30am and return by 10:30am. There will be great schwag and special incentive day-of pricing on all BMC and Argon 18 bikes.

If you can't make the demo-ride stop by afterwards and you will still have a chance to demo a bike and enjoy the festivities.

Planning to ride up to the stage? Let us be your staging area. We will have secure storage for your belongings and a place to fill bottles, change, perform any last minute adjustments and on your return, a place to wash-up and enjoy the evening.

The Mt. Diablo stage is scheduled for a mid-afternoon finish. Once you return from spectating, we will have a BBQ, BEER and a great BAND, blasting tunes into the evening. Bring your friends! Downtown Danville should be a blaze with activity after the race with an anticipated 15-20,000 hungry spectators!

Plan to stop by and help us celebrate the first ever mountain top finish for the TOC. It is considered the penultimate stage this year and should not disappoint! For those of you avoiding the mountain, we will be streaming the race on the big screen at the shop.

See you then!

(Keep checking back, we will be announcing local breweries that may be here sharing their fine Brew!)

Friday Ride

A Friday Ride. Typically Friday is my day-off. Since being a small business owner does not afford many days off, riding is rarely a part of the schedule. Luckily, on the Friday you see before you, a friend asked me on a ride and I took the invitation. A humid post spring rain roll out to Lafayette, via Reliez Valley road, is all anyone on two wheels needs for inspiration to get back on the bike in a committed fashion. The windy tromp up Upper Happy Valley road to the Bears then to Pig Farm, inspired many ideas and conversations with my ride conspirator. First, I need to this more often. Second, A "Fur-low" Friday Ride! Is anyone out there up for a regular Friday morning ride? LMK

Mt. Diablo from China Camp

Mt. Diablo viewed from Nike missile site at China Camp

How long is too long? When is enough? The questions may be rhetorical, but we all think about them. Not always voiced, but definitely felt, where is your limit with the outside world? That point we reach when only a ride will do. Or, as in my case, why has it taken so long for us to ride again? Life has its fences and mazes that redirect our intent, derailed intent is never good.

This morning I had the honor to ride with two of the most regular riding partners I have. Two friends that life has given me along my way. At times we all ride together or we divide up into pairs on occasion, depending who has what, going on where. In all we have been riding together for 17 years. Like many of you who have a group you ride with, life flings its arrows and you find each other apart and not really knowing where the other went. By the time you regroup, a month has gone by. And, with that month went all the fitness a forty-something husband, father of three kids and small business operator, can get.

Banging out those miles on the single track of China Camp does not come easy, but you slowly get back into the rhythm of the trail...root...root...turn....root....root...rock....root... root... tree... you free yourself from the handle bar table of life's daily necessities, which are currently causing you to climb slower than you remember. Your eyes open to the trail in front of you and you begin to think, "Why is this not a daily necessity anymore?"

Carbon 29'er Anyone?

2012 Scott Carbon and Alloy twenty-niners are here! Since their introduction two years ago, these bikes have sold out long before the season started and this year is no exception.

The word on the carbon hard tail is PLUSH. The happy Pegasus customer to the left, has been ecstatic about his recent purchase and still cannot believe how comfy his new RC Scale frame set is.
Stop by for test spin... Models in the Aspect 29 series start as low as $520.00. The Scale series are the nicer spec'd models and start at $925.00. Also,  check out the all new Spark 29 full suspension...more to come on that one.

My first impression of this hard tail is "no compromise". It covers the bases with the speed of a 29 and the agility of a 26. Speed and comfort rarely blend in a carbon hard tail.

Mount Diablo 2012

Resolution. I have to say, the aformentioned word was not heard by my ear this year from anyone. How many of you made New Years resolutions?

This was mine. Get up, get the kids out the door, drop them off for school and ride the mountain, all before I have to open the shop. On January 9th, I met my resolve. It has taken since September of last year to do this, but the point is that I finally did it.

Finding inspiration... What is it that finally inspires you to return to something you forgot you needed? The stress of  life gets us off track and meandering in different orbits. That's what happened to me.

Today Mount Diablo held an alien scenery, especially for January. Brown still. Fall has not lost its dry, dead grip and the hardened clay is begging for moisture. My rides these days are painful, slow and painfully slow. Today was no exception, but I did feel better about meeting the morning with two coyotes and a lone buck.  (Having an extra winter layer made the descent one of my better times in a while.)

Who wants to join me this weekend for round two?

May Day Rides - New Shop Hours

Ok, so it really isn't on May Day, but we are officially starting the shop riding season on Wednesday the 4th of May.
Join us for a NEW Wednesday morning ride. This ride will be in addition to our regular riding schedule and will be a permanent ride from May through September. This ride is also a part of our NEW Pegasus / Kovarus Cycling Club and will be attended by members of growing Riding club that all of you should join. If you are looking for a group of non-racers to ride with, this is your group. All abilities, ages, creeds, colors and love orientations are welcome! The Pegasus Staff will also be there, so no worries while out on the road. We are also looking for input on the ride, routes, on or off-road, hills versus flat, etc. The rides will generally be about 35-50 miles at a moderate pace (14-16mph avg.) With the routes changing every week.

Ride departs at 9 am-ish. (for those of you who have never ridden with me ;).

This will be a great way for anyone new to the area to discover our amazing back yard. Make friends, learn how to ride in a group, fix flats and maybe even some roadside emergency tricks!

With this new additional ride, our shop hours on Wednesday will change to 12 noon to 7pm. (normal hours  were 10am to 7pm.)

FAST FREDDIE NOW BEING SERVED

Join us on Thursdays for cup of Fast Freddie Turbo Blend Coffee
and you may be served by Freddie himself! That's right, Pegasus is now the Official Coffee stop of FAST FREDDIE'S  training rides. The ride begins at the Domingo Ave. Peet's Coffee in Berkeley. Departure time is around 8:30 am and is informal. We have had three successful rides so far and the rides will continue until... The group pulls into Pegasus around 10:45-ish, for a short coffee break and for bike-centric conversation (as you will see in the slideshow images on the right).

Freddy is encouraging people to join the ride here and create their own loop if they are not interested in going all the way back to Berkeley. Typically the ride departs from the shop and goes up Mt. Diablo; out towards Livermore or, over Dublin Canyon, before heading back towards the bay. Can't make the ride? Just stop by to say hello and have a free cup the FF Turbo Blend coffee. You can also buy a can coffee and help support the Fast Freddie Foundation.

"Our mission at Fast Freddie Foundation (FFF) is to support young cyclists in achieving their goals in cycling and beyond. FFF is strongly committed to enhancing the physical, ethical, and professional development of young riders through our creation of cycling programs and our support of youth cycling teams and leagues that aim to give these talented and dedicated cyclists the skills and tools for realizing their dreams. FFF believes that essential to this objective is emphasizing that education and community responsibility are key to achieving success, both on and off the bike."- F.F.

The last couple of rides included a transplant pro on the Garmin-Transitions squadra, Kirk Carlsen. That's him comparing custom shoes and inserts with Freddie et al.(in the slide show to the right) Say hello to him and welcome him to the bay area, he is very approachable and a great ambassador of our sport. Well, say hello to him once he's back from winter training camp. I think they are in Spain....

Good thing the coffee smelled so good!

CHROME MESSENGER BAGS and more

We are now your East Bay Chrome location!
"Chrome started in Boulder, Colorado 14 years ago when a couple of guys needed bags and couldn't find anything that met their standards. So they got the toughest materials they could find, headed into their garage and started sewing. Functional seatbelts from used car lots were re-purposed into bag straps, and tough vinyl fabric salvaged from old furniture was sewn into bag liners.
Before long, people were knocking on their door. Word was out that Chrome was making the best messenger bags around. What started out of necessity became a business with an ethic: build functional products that people can rely on and do it well.
Eventually we moved to San Francisco, a city with a huge urban cycling scene. The business grew. Bags were joined by clothes, gear and shoes. Our products showed up from Brooklyn to Berlin to Tokyo. But what matters today is what mattered in the garage – building products that work, and standing behind everything we make."

Stop by and throw on a pair of shoes or a messenger bag. These sneaks are not your grandpa's Chuck Taylor's. They are built to out-last and out-ride those things into the ground. While they have only one SPD compatible shoe in the line up, they all share a special shank insert that stiffens the sole enough to make them a great shoe to ride around town in. Learn more http://www.chromebagsstore.com/

In celebration we will be having a SALE until December 24th. Come in and save 15%off your Chrome product purchase. Sale includes special orders too!

De Rosa Avant Arrives...

Everything began just after the war. It was 1947, I was 13 years old and crazy about bikes. It was the time of the Sunday magazine, the Domenica del Corriere, with its covers drawn by Walter Molino illustrating the feats of Bartali and Coppi. For me, it was a time for studying but also for dreaming. And in the workshop of Filippo Fasci, one of my relatives, I dreamed of building myself a bike and becoming a champion. It was in that little workshop that my destiny was decided.  When I was 18 I set up business on my own and began this difficult but wonderful adventure that I am still experiencing today, with the same strength, desire and enthusiasm as in those early years.

While Ugo De Rosa made frames for many riders and teams, one in particular is very familiar to us all.... that beautiful orange steel steed ridden by cycling's 'Great One'. Eddy Merckx was the heart of the Molteni racing machine, and beneath him was Ugo's work.

The Molteni machine
For a limited time we will have a full size run of the De Rosa Avant. Please come by and experience the life work of Ugo. While the Avant is the introductory carbon frame in their line, its place belies its character and performance.

Stop by and we will attach your pedals, match your current fit numbers and pump up the tires. The rest is up to you. You can take it for sixty seconds or sixty miles!

Eddy and Ugo inspect an auspicious track frame

Come ride with Ruthie Matthes

We have partnered with Marin Bikes, to share the honor of hosting you and Ruthie on a mellow mountain bike ride on Mount Diablo.
Don't have a mountain bike? Want to ride a new 2011 full suspension rig? No problem. We will have a Demo fleet of Marin Mt. Visions, Rift Zones, the new CXR Carbon 29'er and more.
Afterwards we will enjoy some coffee and hangout in the Pegasus Lounge, while Ruthie shows off some new gear from Vaude, UVEX and Magura
Ruthie Matthes is an American professional bicycle racer who won the World Cup Cross-Country Mountain Bike Championship in 1991. She is also a road cyclist, having twice finished in 2nd place in the Women's Challenge bicycle stage race. I remember just getting into mountain biking when she was just killing it. An American woman, in what was an american sport, doing well in Europe. We need more like her! Come ride with an icon in the sport we all love!

Ride departs Friday December 3rd @ 8:am from the shop.

If you would like to reserve a bike please call us at 925.362.2220
